What are the Alaska continuing education requirements for architects?

Alaska architects must complete a minimum of 24 professional development hours (PDHs) in each two year renewal cycle. The content of all 24 hours must be devoted to health, safety, and welfare (HSW) subjects related to the practice of architecture.

I have extra Alaska architect continuing education hours, can I apply them to the next renewal cycle?

A maximum of 12 PDHs may be carried forward into the next biennial period. The number of carry forward PDHs must be indicated on your biennial registration form.

Who notifies Alaska of my completed architect continuing education?

Submission of completed PDHs with renewal is not required. Each registrant is responsible for maintaining a list of their CE activities. All records of attendance and completion of CE should be maintained for four years for audit purposes. Architects Training Institute will maintain your records for 6 years at no extra charge.

The Alaska State Board of Registration randomly audits five percent of all renewing registrants to ensure compliance with the CE requirements.

Do I need to complete continuing education requirements for my AIA membership?

Yes, as an Architect member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), 18 learning unit hours are required per calendar-year for membership renewal. Of these 18 hours, at least 12 hours must be in subjects designated as Health, Safety, and Welfare (HSW).

Are AIA approved classes accepted to renew my Alaska architect license?

My Alaska architect registration has lapsed, how do I reinstate it?

Registrations are considered expired if they have lapsed for more than 5 years.
